Cletus's Coca-Cola Chicken

Coca-Cola Chicken is one of them dishes that sounds crazy but tastes downright addictive. The cola cooks down into a sweet, sticky, tangy glaze that coats the chicken perfectly. It’s cheap, easy, and makes the whole house smell amazing.

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 6–8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (or a mix of thighs and drumsticks)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (12-oz) can Coca-Cola (regular, not diet)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar (optional, for extra caramelization)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp oil or bacon grease for browning

How to Make Coca-Cola Chicken

  1. 1. Season chicken well with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  2. 2. Heat oil or bacon grease in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown the chicken on both sides (you don’t need to cook it through yet). Remove and set aside.
  3. 3. In the same pan, cook sliced onions until softened, about 5–6 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  4. 4. Pour in the Coca-Cola, ketchup, soy sauce, Worcestershire, and brown sugar. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  5. 5. Nestle the chicken back into the sauce. Cover and simmer on low for 35–45 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened into a beautiful sticky glaze.
  6. 6. For extra sticky skin, uncover for the last 10 minutes or broil for 2–3 minutes at the end.
